A Little R & R

Pool Pic MAIN_Fotor

I wish I was back in that photo I’ve featured above, I was laying by the pool lapping up the sun with a glass of Rum bliss.  That picture was taken a few months ago, I was on a gig in France in the beautiful Loire Valley.  We had a good amount of chill time after our soundcheck as the show was the next day, the band was housed in a lovely château which we had all to ourselves, it was beautiful, the hosts were lovely people and very friendly.  I love those shows where you get to pretend you are on holiday on your days off, it’s one of the many perks that you can enjoy in our business.  It doesn’t always happen but when it does it’s glorious. 🙂

So today’s post is going to be a short one, I hope you don’t mind, too much, I’ve been doing admin, and working in the studio song-writing so I don’t feel like I have much to share.

I hope you’ve all been in good spirit’s getting back into the swing of life after the festive season. I finally got to the second week of January and thought, YES!!  finally some time off, a week of rest and relaxation, but how wrong I was.  The week started off quiet and I was enjoying taking it easy for a change, catching up with paperwork and admin then suddenly the phone started to ring, emails came in and the week was suddenly full, I’m not complaining it’s a blessing.  I had a last minute recording for a TV show and a request to do a vocal for a Producer, and all had to be done that same week.  I had initially planned to take a few days out to rest and then leisurely work on some songs so it threw the week into a bit of a spin, but at least I did get one day off, or was it two??

The last two weeks have been spent song-writing and recording, I had a back log of songs to write for clients I can never get any songs written in December as I’m so busy with live shows, so it’s almost impossible to write songs during the festive period.  January and February are normally the quiet period in the music business so I like to use the time to recover from the mad Christmas period, re-focus, plan, write and record songs, also catch up on projects.

Creating songs for other people is always a little like baring your soul to someone or standing naked in front of a total stranger with nowhere to run or hide, you really open yourself up, it’s quite a vulnerable position to be in.  I try to write lyrics that fit the music, or if there is no music then I write what I feel fits the idea and style requested and I try to follow my spirit.  Lastly I record down my ideas, tweak it until I’m happy and send a rough demo to the client, and that’s the nail-biting part you have to wait to get a response, you watch your email lol and hope to get a positive response.  Luckily the majority of my ideas are gladly welcomed by my clients so I’m happy, it’s great to get a positive response on a song you’ve written.  On occasion a client may want something changed and then I just have to make some tweaks or have a chat with them to see what they would like me to change, I’m quite flexible and not precious about making changes, I don’t mind, it’s important for the client to be happy at the end of the day.  So I always try to give the client what they want, it brings me much pleasure and fulfilment to make a client happy.

Recording in Logic

This is a screen shot of Logic, it’s the programme I use to record my vocals, and create basic song ideas. I’m still getting used to using this programme and learning how to use more of it’s features, but it’s pretty easy to use for someone like me who hasn’t had loads of training on the software. My recording needs are basic I leave the fancy stuff to Stuart he’s the expert on Logic. This is one of the songs I’ve worked on recently, I just finished this one this week. The client is happy and all vocal files have been sent off, project is completed from my end. I’ll post the finished song here once I get it back from the Record Label.  On to the next song  🙂

My Thought For Today:

Always do your best and no matter how small the work or whether its something you are doing for free or being paid a whole lot for, just do it to the best of your ability.  That’s my motto.

New Year, New Goals, New Dreams

IMG_2634  Dubai at night

Ahhh 2015 the beginning of a new year.  What are your hopes and dreams for this year…..

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas period with your loved ones, I had a great one 🙂  a very happy, fun and love filled day just as it should be.

The end of 2014 was a great one, I saw the New Year in with my baby in Dubai, a great show and meetings were had.  The fireworks at midnight were absolutely STUNNING!!!  I’ve never seen anything like it, it was really spectacular.  I haven’t been to Dubai in a few years but it has developed so much over the last few years, it’s amazing the level of growth that has happened there.  I absolutely love the weather there it was gloriously hot (mid 20’s) in December which seems weird after leaving the UK in the cold frosty weather, but we were happy to feel the sun and not have to wear jackets, it was sad to have to leave the sun behind though when we flew out 😦

Check out the Fireworks display from NYE,  I think this won the Guinness World Record.

So looking back at 2014, I guess I should start by reviewing my goals, that’s always a good way to start the New Year.
My main goal for 2014 was to release my own music under my own name, which I achieved in 2014 with a lot of help from my wonderful baby who believed in my dream as did I.

Over the years in my career I have sung many many times for other people on their recordings often called “featuring“, but creating my own album was the first time I would sing on my own music where I had a say in how the music sounded and what I wanted the style to be etc.

Having my own music out has been a goal I’ve wanted to achieve for many years but the conditions have never been right or I’ve never had the opportunity to work with someone who had the time to help me.  So it means a lot to me to have accomplished that as I had almost given up hope having had a few false starts, but I never gave up, I knew it would happen.

So I’ve I left 2014 with a great sense of achievement as I had finally released my own EP the title is called “Elements”, having worked with an amazing Producer Stuart Trotman (my baby) on the EP I was really happy with the finished product.  I was even privileged enough to have the single “CHANGE MY HEART” remixed by wonderful talented producers who are also colleagues and friends of mine, remixes are by:  Chops Man & Distant People, Kyoto Jazz Massive, DJ Kawasaki and Challi Murphy.

The EP and single remixes were well received and made it to No.4 in the UK Underground Soul Chart after four weeks in the Top 10 so I was really chuffed.  I was even getting a little airplay in the USA which was really amazing.  It was really hard work for us getting the EP done and putting it out there, setting up our own label to get the music out there was a lot of hard work in the background but it was well worth it when the feedback was so positive once the music was out, and really inspires us to move on to making the next one.

So what did you achieve in 2014 that you are proud of, let me know in the comments below.

Looking ahead now into 2015 I think about what my goals will be now, I’ve listed a few of my goals below:

*  Release a follow up EP or album
*  Go on a proper holiday (I didn’t get one last year)
*  Spend more time with family & friends
*  Expand my business
*  Incorporate more cardiovascular in my routine (I’m sure this is on almost everybody’s list this year)  I need it especially for energy on live shows.

NB. My apologies for the errors in the formatting of some of the text, I’m still having trouble with this theme or WordPress, I’m not sure which one.  I can’t seem to get the paragraphs where I want them all the time.  It’s a bit hit and miss at the moment and quite annoying.  I may have to re-think using this theme perhaps if I can’t resolve it.  The WordPress Forum isn’t really any help either, as the solutions I’ve tried don’t seem to work.

My Thought for Today:

Keep reaching for your dreams, reach for the stars and don’t give up on what you want to achieve, tweak it and even change it but never give up!!

The Art of Multi-Tasking

Fotosearch_k2279883-Multi-tasking copy

Well folks I hope you are all good and getting ready for the Christmas. I’m sorry that this instalment is late but I’ve been a very busy bee on and off stage.   I’m also tweaking the look of the site so it may change a bit, my apologies for that.  I’m finding some of the themes a little buggy, so drafts are going missing and formats are not doing what they should etc…I’m still learning so please bare with me whilst I try to settle the design issues, having to use some code because the visual side is not doing what it’s supposed…Really though, I am not a programmer!!

Moving on, I can’t actually believe there are only 2 days left until Christmas now It’s insane, where has the year gone??   I feel completely unprepared for Christmas this year.
I hope you’ve all done better than I have with your Christmas shopping.   I’m very late this year getting my shopping done, usually I’m all done by November but not this year so I’m dreading going out there now to shop and pick up my last few pressies, I’ve got a few things but still need to shop for few bits.

Well I thought this week I would talk about the level of multi-tasking that goes on when you work for yourself, I’m sure that those of you who are business owners can identify especially at this time of year we all have to multi-task.

I found it quite amusing when one day whilst rehearsing at home for a show I was also cooking dinner, washing the dishes, doing the laundry, finalising contracts for a show and rehearsing all at the same time I laughed at myself. How amazing we are as human beings that we can do several things all at the same time and still do them well.  I felt like an octopus that day but I was well chuffed as I got through alot so the relaxation on the sofa afterwards was well earned and appreciated, but I don’t recommend doing this on a regular basis or it will drive you crazy!

I still have days where I wish I had a PA just to give a hand here and there when things are going crazy.  We will see what 2015 brings maybe I’ll get some help if things continue to grow.  So you see it’s not all glitz and glamour in the entertainment world but it is definitely a lot of fun and very interesting. No two days are the same and you never know who will be emailing or calling you and from what part of the world to discuss business.

When you are not on stage or flying here and there it’s very much a normal life with long hours lol, meetings, phone calls, emails, rehearsals. I’m not complaining though I love music and I love what I do.  Everyday is a blessing. 😀

Anyhoo here are some pics from what I’ve been up to since the last blog, enjoy.

My dinner whilst super multi-tasking, tasted yummy (it’s fish fillets and lots of veg)

Some pics from my various shows over the last few weeks.  Hanging out with my lovely & funny muso friends brings much joy and laughter whilst working.

Working with my special baby is always a pleasure, he’s SUPER talented, wonderful and Soooo Lurrrrvely……Swoooooooon

Setting up for Soundcheck.  (Gotta make sure it sounds right for the show)

Getting new toys for upcoming shows:   We got a new mixing desk and finally my own in ears system and microphone YAY!!. The In Ear Monitoring system helps me hear myself whilst singing (you put them in your ears like headphones and connect them to a pack which you clip onto your clothes) it’s a GOD SEND!!!  I really love it, really helps to save the voice when the sound on stage isn’t great.  It’s not the most expensive of these systems, but it certainly does the job well.  I’ve been using it for the whole of this month and it’s GREAT!!!   The LD System gets a big THUMBS UP from me. 🙂

My last words are do what you love and love what you do.  Everyday is a blessing so make it count.  Reach out for what you want and IT WILL COME to you.

Have a wonderful holiday and I wish you and yours a wonderful happy Christmas filled with love, laughter and peace.

Peace & Blessings

Tasita x 🙂

Taking The Plunge!

So I’ve finally decided to take the plunge into blog world!!  Everyone keeps telling me how important it is to have a blog, and I’ve been making up tons of excuses to myself of why I shouldn’t have one, but my self argument is not as good as all the other good reasons I’ve been given to do a blog so here we are…..I’m not sure I will have enough to say or if anyone will want to hear it lol but I’m going to give it a go and see what happens.

First and foremost I’m here because of my music I am a singer and songwriter so I will be talking about my musical journey and what happens along the way, and dipping into other areas of life, sharing my thoughts and ideas with you and asking questions too.

I hope you will enjoy this journey with me and join in the conversation, I won’t bore you with my ranting everyday but I hope to post at least once a week and we will see what happens from there.  If you like what you see or read, please like, comment and share etc.. but please keep it clean no foul language or your comment will be deleted promptly!

Please remember that I’m new at this so don’t curse me if I do or say something silly, I’m sure I’ll get there in the end lol.  Anyhoo enjoy your week and be blessed. x

Ciao for now…..
